Once again… a little off-topic, but very much related to business and technology of course, and very much worth noting…
If you have not already heard of “TED” and the remarkable ideas and videos they have spawned, you need to check this out.
TED bills itself as a small nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It grew out of a 1984 technology conference that brought together the worlds of Technology, Entertainment and Design.
In 2001 an entrepreneur by the name of Chris Anderson bought the rights to the TED conferences. Since then, Anderson’s team has been collecting and posting an eclectic mix of video speeches and presentations (called Ted Talks) aimed at topics including (of course) Technology, Entertainment and Design, but also Business, Science and Global Issues.
At their website, they make the videos available for FREE. That’s right, free. The videos are by various turns inspirational, educational, inspiring and fascinating. They even labeled one category ‘jaw-dropping.’ Mostly, they are random thought-works composed by smart, often brilliant people designed to encourage and amuse and motivate and inspire and educate and… well, you get the gist of it.
From titles like ‘What’s Wrong With Our Food’ to ‘Women, Wartime and the Dream of Peace’… or ‘How I Taught Rats to Sniff Out Land Mines’ to ‘Haiti’s Disaster of Engineering’ the commom thread is uncommon people exploring noteworthy subjects for the purpose of, largely, expanding the viewer’s mind.
And of course, since our blog’s thrust is, after all, business, you’ll find a plethora of worthy videos on cutting edge business topics.
You can peruse these for yourself – warning: Don’t do this if you have work to do! – at TED’s website, which of course, is at www.ted.com.
Just for fun, check out Keith Barry below, giving his presentation on Brain Magic… But remember, get your work done first… don’t say I didn’t warn you!
